This system was designed to laser cut the ends off of medical test tubes after the plastic injection molding process. The sealed test tubes are loaded onto a pallet and placed in the system. The robot picks a tube and spins it in front of the CO2 laser for cutting. A through conveyor is able to be added at a later date to fully automate the process. The system is set up to accept different tube sizes with a quick and easy change of the robot head attachment.

Oh, I bet the owner of my local clinic would love this article since she has some extra tubes to alter. Thanks for making us realize that medical test tubes are indeed meant to have their ends cut off using a laser. I'll surely ask her to check out this information so she can make a request from the right fabrication company.
